This is the privacy policy for Pie Heart Studio, run by me, Beth Rawlins. It explains what information I collect when you visit pieheartstudio.co.uk, why I collect it, and what I do with it.
I've tried to write this in plain English rather than legal boilerplate, because I'd rather you actually understood it than skimmed past it. If anything here is unclear, email me at beth@pieheartstudio.co.uk and I'll explain properly.
What I collect
If you fill in my contact form, I collect your name and email address. That's it from you directly.
I also use two tools that collect some information automatically when you visit the site:
- Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics tool. It tells me broad, anonymised things like which country visitors are in and which pages get read, but it doesn't identify you personally or link anything to your IP address.
- The Meta pixel, which I use so I can show relevant ads to people who've visited the site, and measure whether those ads are working. This collects things like your IP address, a device or cookie identifier, and which pages you looked at. This only fires if you've consented via the cookie banner.
How I use it
- To reply to enquiries and run the studio's day-to-day work
- To deliver client projects, once we're working together
- To send newsletters or updates, if you've opted in
- To understand how people use the site, so I can improve it
- To show and measure ads via Meta, if you've consented to that
I don't use your information to make any automated decisions about you. Everything here is a human (me) reading enquiries and replying.
Sharing your information
I don't sell your information in the traditional sense, but it's worth being upfront about one thing: because the Meta pixel sends browsing data (like IP address and pages viewed) to Meta so I can run ads, some privacy laws classify this as a form of “sharing.”
So, to be fully transparent:
The information involved is limited to identifiers (IP address, device or cookie ID) and browsing activity (pages visited, time on site). This goes to Meta Platforms, for advertising purposes only. I don't share your name, email address, or anything you've told me directly with any advertising platform.
I may also share information where I'm legally required to (for example, in response to a court order), or if the studio were ever sold or restructured, in which case client and contact information may transfer as part of that.
Where your data goes
Because I use the Meta pixel, some data is transferred to the US, which isn't automatically considered a safe destination under UK data protection law. Meta has its own safeguards in place for this (Standard Contractual Clauses), which is the standard, legally required mechanism for this kind of transfer.
How long I keep things
Honestly, for as long as it's genuinely useful and necessary, and no longer. Client details stay in my systems while we're working together and for a reasonable period after (for accounting and reference purposes). Enquiries that don't turn into anything don't need to be kept indefinitely, and I don't keep information longer than the law allows for tax or accounting records.
Cookies
The site uses a cookie banner, so you can choose which cookies you're happy with before anything (like the Meta pixel) starts tracking. For the full detail on what each cookie does, see my cookie policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what information I hold about you, and get a copy of it
- Ask me to correct anything that's wrong or out of date
- Ask me to delete your information
- Object to how I'm using it, or ask me to restrict it, in certain circumstances
To do any of this, just email me at beth@pieheartstudio.co.uk. I'll get back to you and sort it out directly, there's no formal process to navigate.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you're a parent and think your child has given me information without your knowledge, get in touch and I'll remove it.
Keeping things secure
I take reasonable, sensible precautions to keep your information secure. No system is completely unbreakable, but I don't take this lightly.
Other websites
If I link out to other websites, they'll have their own privacy practices, which I'm not responsible for. You'd need to check their policies to see what they share.
Changes to this policy
I may update this from time to time, usually to reflect changes in what tools I'm using or what the law requires. The version here is always the current one.
