Helen Coston: Launch of a Personal Brand

When Helen Coston approached me about creating the website for her new personal brand and coaching business, I was pretty happy about it! I’d been connected with Helen on LinkedIn for a long time, and had always looked up to her as a fellow woman in business, as well as being the founder of an online community for freelancers, and an all-round lovely person.

A new business venture

When Helen got in touch with me about a new website, she already had a website for her primary business: Inktop Commercial, a media sales and marketing consultancy. However, she was building her new venture as a business coach, and things were getting a little messy.

Helen said:

“I was using my business website to host content about my coaching. They’re very different audiences and my website had become quite confusing. As a DIY job it was also looking quite unaligned and not a very good reflection of how I work as a coach.”

“Knowing Beth for a long time and seeing her work for other solo business owners was one reason I got in touch with Pie Heart studio. I spent some time looking through other clients websites and liked the style and tone.”

Designing the Visual Identity

As this was essentially a new business launch, Helen needed a visual identity for her personal brand. She wanted something bold and colourful that reflected her energetic and enthusiastic personality.

All our projects start with an in depth brand and website strategy questionnaire, as well as an initial strategy and planning session with me. This informs the design of the visual identity. Pie Heart Studio’s graphic designer Tara got to work on Helen’s visual identity design, creating a full logo suite, typography pairings and a curated colour palette.

Words, Design, Development

As with all our website projects at Pie Heart Studio, website copywriting is included, so Helen worked with copywriter Hannah to convey the transformative approach that her work has on her clients.

As Hannah was working on Helen’s website copy, I was creating the structure of the website, getting ready to fill it with all the lovely words and visuals the rest of the team was coming up with.

Once I have all the brand assets, the style guide, the images are decided on, and the website copy is finalised, designing the actual pages of a new website is a fairly straightforward process.

During our initial strategy session we do the work of mapping out the visitor journey and deciding on the actions we want them to take, so at this point it’s just a matter of building everything out in an attractive, engaging way.

Mobile Optimisation

Of course, it’s also really important to make sure the website looks amazing on mobile (almost 60% of web page views are on mobile in 2024). A big part of the job of a professional web designer is making sure the mobile version of the site functions just as well, and looks just as good, as the desktop version.

The final result was a professional, streamlined and mobile responsive website that showcases Helen’s experience and expertise, and guides potential clients towards the right option for them.

Helen said:

“I feel amazing having a site I am actually proud of! I have had amazing feedback from my clients and community.”

Support moving forward

Within a few days of her new website launch, Helen was busy publishing blog posts and resources on the new website. I always provide support and guidance on best practices for this, as part of my ongoing WordPress Care Plan.

As part of the Care Plan, I’ll be supporting Helen and her website going forward, managing and maintaining the site, keeping the plugins updated, and taking care of any edits to the main pages whenever necessary.
